It really doesn’t matter what this sounds like – the cover’s
fuckin’ great! But – in case you’re wondering….this features plenty of
synthesizers, creepy vocals, yes – a prominent flute on one song….never quite
makes it to the “good” column….almost….but hell it was 1979….I’m sure it was
ahead of its time…Said Bone person went on to Shox Lumania in New York and
apparently something of a music career….</div>

A representative example of the region-rock phenomenon
(basically a bunch of drunks who also rock – and leave a trail of empty beer

workmanlike musicianship with zero pretentiousness. Actually, pretentiousness

Horrible noise-punk from Tampa, I think….Horrible in the
best sense of the word. Jarring snotty female vocals over chaotic fast
distorted riffs recorded just right. I find it quite catchy. They should be
rock stars by now – but alas 99.999% of people hate stuff like this. Some of
their other records are a little ponderous – look for this one….</div>

However, their teutonic rhythm section was ditched for the U-Boat second 7". They have an LP still later but I've never heard it. <div></div></div><div>Both songs here are solid hardcore-informed midtempo punk. The stand-out track here is "Break Out Tonight" which they brazenly annexed from the equally obscure Commandos from Massachusetts who had originally titled the track "Stay Out Tonight" on their first 1978 7". There is no indication the song is a cover and given that they changed the words and name, the U-Boats clearly intended to steal it. Yes, that's right, this is a genuine punk rock record. The chorus of the A-side, "We're all into anarchy, the government's ripping off me," confirms it. </div><br /><div></div><div>Widenhofer, also known as Bobby Skullfucker, also played in Tampa's Jehovah's Sicknesses if memory serves. It's lo-fi, but in spite of that it is the instrumentation that makes this such a great single. It has a haunting, droning keyboard over obscure vocals. Great squeaks, whistles and swishes buried in all the murkiness. Snippets of clever lyrical images escape the swamp. No, this is not self-conscious shoegaze crap for which the "sound" trumps the songs. These are real songs, the intensity hidden therein you might miss the first time. It helps if you listen to it at high volume as I am doing right now.KBFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03639818871886881830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745773624141851722.post-10574621583025293882011-01-22T16:02:00.000-08:002011-01-22T16:29:24.319-08:00SLIPPERY SLOPES -- Sad Tugs 7"<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpvCF0XeRVPhcZPsGWwxncjL33r-diae9v5HbgbAeI8uNop59VkKgzOoBnUtjpiyJEo1ph9sVDtycerdCl5WzMT3QUDjx2JLfQoTigEU7r2szvs75CblEf6y3Sxg7tJH1qkzhT91Okt8M/s1600/slippery1.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565170062282000610" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpvCF0XeRVPhcZPsGWwxncjL33r-diae9v5HbgbAeI8uNop59VkKgzOoBnUtjpiyJEo1ph9sVDtycerdCl5WzMT3QUDjx2JLfQoTigEU7r2szvs75CblEf6y3Sxg7tJH1qkzhT91Okt8M/s200/slippery1.jpg" /></a>Florida's Dying -- Orlando -- 2010<br /><div><br /><div><div>Sad Tugs</div><div>Pizza I'm Against It</div><div>Carburetor</div><div>Burnin'</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimRYg48Bcjh1d3_iZ-wrM5QIq928vl9d0TaFD-BtysvLo_HonwnITOQf7KLXVLSklA5kobOmMXZ-3cQAkx4h09Lw5AeyuvJ9GnKOSauannw9BkDN9zCbNsvOW3jsRyTpacgfYiuQTEGV0/s1600/slippery2.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565171502209460594" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimRYg48Bcjh1d3_iZ-wrM5QIq928vl9d0TaFD-BtysvLo_HonwnITOQf7KLXVLSklA5kobOmMXZ-3cQAkx4h09Lw5AeyuvJ9GnKOSauannw9BkDN9zCbNsvOW3jsRyTpacgfYiuQTEGV0/s200/slippery2.jpg" /></a><br /><div>This band plays old school pop-punk in the Queers mold, with songs like "Pizza I'm Against It," the stand-out track. I usually use the label "pop punk" as an insult, but not in this case. This record is not overly slick like pop punk generally is and offers catchy, goofy who-cares attitude. In this recording they go for the reverby vocals like the Jacuzzi Boys and many other bands are doing at the moment, but it is not excessive.</div><br /><div>The alernative and superior cover of the record cover prominently features a swastika. The first bits I can't argue with. It's poppy mid-tempo punk sporting a (305) area code and 'Knots' in particular is catchy. The explanation is that Punk Rock Joel, known well by the Lake Worth scene that spawned both him and this band, moved out west for work and, finding it, was flush enough to launch the label. He chose the infamous <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Asspiss</span></span> for the first number.</div><br /><div>Infamous is a tough label to earn these days, but these hard-working gentlemen have set their sights high. The band looks truly demented on the back cover photos – a minor plus.</span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><o:p></o:p></span></p></div>KBFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03639818871886881830noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745773624141851722.post-17559489628624656972010-01-02T06:44:00.000-08:002010-01-02T06:47:37.107-08:00NEW DAY – 4 song 7” EP<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisijvdY8xJXJeRWRP3t4MP7xFG_LdtVWVvGq2O6TS05qIzfFMcqYX8eZc_wOpq8gTCVulh8qAzlxt2dU73Oau7DnRDyDX735fRdTsBSOtqrOFClKJSJn6DZ5HZge-VnhmywO2s2nTiwdg/s1600-h/newday.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 191px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422153928180854002" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisijvdY8xJXJeRWRP3t4MP7xFG_LdtVWVvGq2O6TS05qIzfFMcqYX8eZc_wOpq8gTCVulh8qAzlxt2dU73Oau7DnRDyDX735fRdTsBSOtqrOFClKJSJn6DZ5HZge-VnhmywO2s2nTiwdg/s200/newday.jpg" /></a><br /><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Raw Products – Lantana (1995)</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Hallway</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Christ Asbestos</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Sheep</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">The Facts of Life</span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Mike Grover – vocals</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Scott Hughes – guitar</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Chris Freedman – bass</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Dominic Nigro – drums</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">My copy came with an index card stating “If you bought this 7”, you are an IDIOT”. They didn’t fully have their sound together yet on this record. The hardcore punk influence didn’t show up for another record or two and there’s no vocals this time. In lesser hands, improvy instrumental “pieces” (especially in the 7” format) usually come off as annoying, uninspired excuses to make a record and are soon filed – never to be listened to again. This record is different – it totally sounds like it was recorded on another planet and there were very few precedents at the time. Mr. Orcutt invented a new way to play guitar. Ms. Hoyos hadn’t perfected her craft yet (amazing flailing drums with simultaneous ear-piercing screaming) on this record. The “compositions” may sound random, but more than likely were at least semi-worked out. Not terrible – just not especially good. A slightly more commercial new wave sound crept in and the interesting or creepy bits are equally matched with dull and fruity moments. I suppose the vocals annoy me the most - I'm ok with the synths. One must remember that in 1982 bands like this were really blazing new paths in music. Sometimes they just took a wrong turn. Push Me Pull You (Pt 2) is probably the best song here, due in part to its instrumental nature. </span></p></div>KBFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03639818871886881830noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745773624141851722.post-3283284174877181052009-11-24T18:53:00.001-08:002009-11-24T18:55:16.172-08:00MENSTRUAL CYCLES – ½ Skin Punx 7” EP<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKer_De76fsSz7o9KdPXFTohR6ZDPlPEB45zNLyHZlOWrvkRYy-807wdYHbxaAN7GeyC0KJdeBLMKGBSirPEllASEfmlbCLJz-ZylV4qW1y1doslfFumIHtHNxSXUV60ngFOss1Em2B2Y/s1600/menstrual.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407869116553183074" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKer_De76fsSz7o9KdPXFTohR6ZDPlPEB45zNLyHZlOWrvkRYy-807wdYHbxaAN7GeyC0KJdeBLMKGBSirPEllASEfmlbCLJz-ZylV4qW1y1doslfFumIHtHNxSXUV60ngFOss1Em2B2Y/s200/menstrual.jpg" /></a><br /><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Cycles – Hialeah (1983)</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Retirement Home</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Rejected From the Premises</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Kill the President</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Oi Warning</span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Shock (Mario) – guitar, vocals</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Skin – bass, backing vocals</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Hippie – drums, backing vocals</span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">This record seems to focus on the state of being a punk or a skinhead or in the case of the drummer, a hippie. This record is ground-zero of the Hialeah Oi connection – an affinity I don’t fully understand. Maybe it’s an island thing. Something’s really off-kilter and disjointed here – not sure if it’s the bad production (Dave Camp usually did better), dodgy musicianship, crappy songwriting or some combination thereof. Loud and aggressive but, except for the first ten seconds of each song, somehow doesn’t really advance the art of loud shitty music. “Oi Warning” has inappropriate punk rock use of a phase shifter, other songs have roto-toms or whatever they call those fukkin things. Ugly cover art before ugly covers were cool! Rumor has it that they sold a bunch of these in the UK – who knows?….. </span></p></div>KBFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03639818871886881830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745773624141851722.post-33424622574901800632009-11-24T18:50:00.001-08:002009-11-24T18:53:10.243-08:00THE SPEARS – People are Bad 7”<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXPXThe0M6cqVcmDrc8QDS4dRou2AY4zl6DnD8MJ54XnZBViSAw49beXr_rxmEZC2hMTE4tZwIGAfES7SfSJc-QLmVa9j-0VHrG5nVKD0kYWicSouXqt6wWs89Rmt2aacmnTISx8sdQM8/s1600/spears.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 196px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407868561160040594" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXPXThe0M6cqVcmDrc8QDS4dRou2AY4zl6DnD8MJ54XnZBViSAw49beXr_rxmEZC2hMTE4tZwIGAfES7SfSJc-QLmVa9j-0VHrG5nVKD0kYWicSouXqt6wWs89Rmt2aacmnTISx8sdQM8/s200/spears.jpg" /></a><br /><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Choking Hazard Records – Tampa (2008)</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">People Are Bad</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Upset Down</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Bullet Proof</span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Chris Barrows: vocals</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Sam Williams: guitar</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Gary Strickland: bass</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Hunter Oswald: drums</span></p><br /><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Olde-core from Tampa. As with all records featuring either Chris Barrows (Pink Lincolns, Jackie Papers) or Gary Strickland (Hated Youth, Plastic Stars, Honeyrider), it’s a recommended purchase. Not sure who the other 2 dudes are. They must be tops among Tampa low-life. This is fairly standard mid-tempo punk rock – nothing here would sound outta place on a Pink Lincolns record. People are Bad (not a bold statement) is good though both B-side songs are probably better – especially Bullet Proof – it’s short & to the point. I’ll be scanning the internet looking for the next installment. </span></p></div>KBFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03639818871886881830noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745773624141851722.post-87864090008548256712009-11-05T17:39:00.001-08:002009-11-05T17:41:01.594-08:00DAMAGE – 7”EP<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5WOpLUcDzhLfk1NzhF4exhodvt2YKrgrvalQuqaq9kGO8GUPRe_C5AcpLJ8flQDH61mcyQwfsuc11o2WfFrCDI3l-bKIPvATwZSiQyL-x_htQntgtcOb9LmybMiuvzVbRGYNS-I2NR_4/s1600-h/damage.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 193px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400799406027288450" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5WOpLUcDzhLfk1NzhF4exhodvt2YKrgrvalQuqaq9kGO8GUPRe_C5AcpLJ8flQDH61mcyQwfsuc11o2WfFrCDI3l-bKIPvATwZSiQyL-x_htQntgtcOb9LmybMiuvzVbRGYNS-I2NR_4/s200/damage.jpg" /></a><br /><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Spacefish Records – Winter Park (1984)</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"> <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Jaywalk</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Fight or Die</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Jock Mentality</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Chopin</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Tyler Stans - vocals</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Mike Brown – lead synth</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Mike Buchanan – bass synth</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Jack McGowan – drums</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Keyboards, like everything, have their time and place. That time and place doesn’t really include hardcore punk rock. That didn’t stop Damage from trying. Three of the songs start out like weirdo artpunk and then suddenly speed up to HC velocities. “Chopin” stays at a slower speed and consequently is my favorite song on this record. There are about 1000 bands that sound like this now. Also the lyrical concerns are a little off-putting. Keyboard-driven punk rock should concern outer space or performing science experiments on your sister – not “Jock Mentality” or “Fight or Die”. That said – this is a fairly unique and forward thinking band for 1984. Nice polar bear and palm tree cover art. </span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"> <o:p></o:p></span></p></div>KBFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03639818871886881830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745773624141851722.post-57188053968202850372009-11-05T17:36:00.001-08:002009-11-05T17:38:17.673-08:00THE FRONT – First Strike 7”EP<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBY0_m1-Xo9a6lv-K3tPBADo0951AMOUnNLs74DZLmI3eLZohIDZb0xYGpVX01rJOUe1zMsMYsZsZyA0ki73RD5C-2blZ2o8EAj0xodSM5cKJxRKwbQHDU07YoSLzB_KbY1-p3MKXGToU/s1600-h/front.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 189px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400798568094550850" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBY0_m1-Xo9a6lv-K3tPBADo0951AMOUnNLs74DZLmI3eLZohIDZb0xYGpVX01rJOUe1zMsMYsZsZyA0ki73RD5C-2blZ2o8EAj0xodSM5cKJxRKwbQHDU07YoSLzB_KbY1-p3MKXGToU/s200/front.jpg" /></a><br /><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Foam Records – Miami (1981)</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"> <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Immigration Report</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">It’s Over</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Teen Idol</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Greg McLaughlin</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Larry Hill</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Steve Myers</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Randy Rush</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Flynn Picardal</span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Excellent Devo-inspired single from these Miami rock-guy weirdos. Immigration Report features some rather un-PC lyric concerning Miami’s newest residents following a cool guitar buildup. It’s Over is the most Devo or no-wavy song on the record and almost as good as the A side. 1:19 of perfection. (I don’t wanna be a) Teen Idol (forever) is closer to new wave, but still a decent song. Honeyrider made the Beach Boys sound gloomy by comparison and Hated Youth sound exactly like one would expect a band named Hated Youth to sound. This is much closer to Honeyrider territory – almost an exercise in nostalgia for 70’s melodic punk rock – like Buzzcocks or Undertones without the limey accents. No Front Teeth is in fact a UK label. Gary is as good a singer as he was a yeller in HY and I hope there are more singles to follow.</span></p></div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div>KBFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03639818871886881830noreply@blogger.com2
